Circle Descriptions:
Practical Classroom Solutions,
Amanda Rudolph (Secondary Education) will be offering this teaching
circle at 12:30 p.m. on selected Thursdays. The circle will discuss
issues of interest in order to develop practical ways of solving the
issues.
Issues in Higher Education, Ken Collier (Political
Science) will be offering his popular circle at Java Jacks on selected
Mondays each month at 4 p.m.
Book Circle, Sue Whatley (English) is offering this
circle. The book she has chosen is "Grown Up Digital"
by Don Tapscott. The book explores the characteristics of the Net
Generation and how these young people are changing education, schools
and the workplace.
V.O.I.C.E.S., Ann Wilson (General Business) and Norm
Markworth (Physics and Astronomy) will offer a circle whose acronym
means Veteran Online Instructors:
Course and Experience Sharing.
At each session they will have invited online faculty briefly showcase
their online teaching courses. This will be followed by time for
comment and discussion by the teaching circle. So, if you have always
wondered what those online teachers are doing, here is a chance to see
for yourself. The circle is open to all faculty and will meet on
selected Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m.
Parenthood Juggle, Chay Runnels (Human Sciences) and
Christina Guenther-Scott (Music) will be meeting on selected
Fridays with this popular circle. This circle discusses the
balance of parenting and professional life. We
really want the PJ to be a resource for
faculty and staff with families this semester, and we are working on a
childcare/daycare database, starting a “swap-and share” program for
gently used
baby/children’s items (think Freecycle), and working on any advocacy
issues
that might come up. We also want to have a social event sometime during
the
semester.
