New Faculty Orientation and Professional Development
New faculty orientation is now a year-long series of activities and events coordinated by the New Faculty Orientation Committee and the Teaching Excellence Center. The primary goals of these activities and events are to facilitate interactions among the new faculty to help them become part of the SFA community, and to provide information to enhance the professional success of the new faculty.
The New Faculty Orientation Committee (committee members) plans and coordinates the orientation workshops that occur at the beginning of the fall semester, and the socials that occur following orientation and at the end of each long semester. They also coordinate other social events such as tail gate parties, groups to attend Fine Arts performances, etc.. [Schedule for the 08-09 August Orientation and Social Events]
The Teaching Excellence Center plans and coordinates professional development workshops related to teaching. These workshops occur throughout the year, including the summer. As special set of sessions coordinated by the TEC is the New Faculty Professional Development Series, which will include components for teaching pedagogy, SFA community networking, and university resources. Check out the tentative Schedule for the 2008-2009 academic year. Topics may change slightly, but mark the dates on your calendar!
