Mission Dolores

San Augustine, Texas

Dr. Avery is currently working at Mission Dolores which is the site of a Spanish colonial mission occupied from 1721 to 1773 and located in modern day San Augustine, Texas, 35 miles east of SFA.  Recent excavations conducted by SFA at the site were focused on providing information for a replication of the mission complex.  SFA has partnered with the City of San Augustine, and faculty, students, and volunteers are currently processing the artifacts recovered during these excavations.
