Dresses for Dreams: Dress Collection

Hey ladies, do you have dresses sitting in the back of your closet that you don’t wear anymore and would like to donate it to charity? If so, donate them to Dresses for Dreams! ODK will be collecting dresses plus shoes and accessories, which all be accepted for tax deductible donations. Donations will be accepted until Thursday, March 24. All dresses will be sold March 25 and 26 for $40 or less.
   
National Survey of Student Engagement 2011

SFA needs your help! If you received the invitation to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement 2011 (NSSE), please take a few minutes to complete it. Your input will help shape the future of SFA. Outdoor Pursuits Angelina River Trip Registration Deadline
Sign up by 7 p.m. | Outdoor Center | Cost: $45

Join us Feb. 26-27 on the Angelina River, one of several beautiful, remote streams that flow through the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas. Surrounded by rugged forest bottomlands, the river is home to many birds, animals, reptiles, plants and fish. What you will not see is large-scale development or signs of civilization other than access roads above and below Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Paddling the Angelina River is like taking a trip back into the past, when Native Americans were all who roamed this area. Experience this adventure with us!

Dr. Susan Nelson, SFA adjunct faculty, will present a faculty bassoon recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, as part of the SFA School of Music's Cole Performing Art Series. Nelson and pianist Geneva Fung, SFA staff accompanist, will present a program of works by Latin American composers. Other performers include percussionists Dr. Scott Harris, SFA associate professor of percussion, and Matt Poole, senior from The Woodlands; and guest bassoonist Dr. Eric Varner, of the Windsor (Ontario) Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2.50 for faculty/staff and $2 for students.

All fraternities and sororities are invited to compete in a recycling competition for a customized tailgating tent.  Whoever wins will get their Greek letters airbrushed on the tent. The Environmental Awareness Movement (T.E.A.M.) sponsors "Recycle Week" & "Go Greek, Go Green."

After having to cancel the screening of Digital Nation earlier this month due to weather, the School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts has rescheduled it for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. Admission is free. Douglas Rushkoff’s documentary was filmed for PBS’ “Frontline” and first aired February 2010. The 78-minute film about our digital culture examines topics such as limited attention spans of multitaskers, computer gaming addiction, social relationships, virtual experiences and teaching with technology. Come along with a young woman on her personal quest to find a special place in the night sky. She recalls her imaginative childhood adventures on Mars and the discovery of her "birthday star" which leads her to a lifelong fascination with the heavens. She shares her telescope views of the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with us; points out stars and constellations; and encourages everyone to make the time to look up, even if stargazing in urban areas with light pollution.

SFA Gardens will host a garden seminar “Garden Tool Maintenance for the Mechanically Challenged." Dr. Craig Morton, Ag Mechanics professor, promises to help even the most severely challenged gardeners learn how to sharpen hoes, maintain lawnmowers and make the weed eater purr like a kitten. Come dressed to get dirty for this hands-on workshop. Cost is $20 for Friends of SFA Gardens members and $30 for non-members.
