The SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present a free concert by the Brian Allen and Hernan Hecht Duo Monday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus. Allen, who writes his own music, is one of the greatest trombonists in the world, according to Dr. Deb Scott, SFA associate professor of trombone. He and percussionist Hecht perform regularly in Mexico and the United States, and are currently touring Texas as they promote their new album. “This will be unlike any other trombone concert you’ve ever heard,” Scott said. Pi Kappa Lambda is an honorary music organization that includes faculty, alumni, and students. This is the SFA chapter’s annual faculty recital that benefits the Pi Kappa Lambda Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for students.

“Art in Germany Since the 1990 Political (Re)Unification”

Zuschlag, who is a professor of art history at Koblenz-Landau University, will first give a brief historical outline of what occurred in the art world in the two Germanys after 1945. He will then concentrate on the art in Germany since the fall of the Berlin Wall, including Berlin's current importance as the German art capital, the New Leipziger School and the Düsseldorf School of Photography. A native of Hannover, Germany, Zuschlag studied art history and archaeology in Heidelberg, Germany, and Vienna, Austria, and interned in museums in Berlin, Vienna, San Francisco and Los Angeles. His areas of research interest include modern and contemporary art, art theory, the history and theory of art institutions, art criticism, and the art and art policy of the Third Reich.

Duo Karudan Recital, clarinet and piano

Duo Karudan, a clarinet and piano duo consisting of clarinetist Dr. Christopher Ayer and pianist Dr. Kae Hosoda-Ayer, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The recital is a part of the SFA School of Music’s Cole Performing Arts Series. Christopher Ayer is an associate professor at SFA, and Kae Hosoda-Ayer is a lecturer in collaborative piano at Baylor University. The husband-wife team will perform 20th century European and American works for clarinet and piano. Tickets are $5 adult, $4 senior and $2 student.
