Nominations for Mr. and Miss SFA

Nominations for Mr. and Miss SFA are due Nov. 1. The Mr. and Miss SFA title is an award presented each year by the SFA Alumni Association to exemplary students who will represent and promote SFA. Recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship and service and loyalty to the university.

Student Activities Association
The Student Activities Association is now accepting bids for clean up after the Miranda Lambert concert on Thursday, Nov. 4. This is a great way for your student organization to earn extra money! Contact Student Activities Association requesting a bid form at saa@sfasu.edu and return via e-mail or to the SAA office no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27. You will be notified if your organization receives the bid by noon Thursday, Oct. 28.

The kinetic program crackles with vivid theatricality as the musical sextet drives full-tilt into the agile and muscular world of five of today’s most prominent names in music and dance. Hayes and Geneva Fung, SFA accompanist, will perform a variety of works, including C.P.E. Bach’s “Hamburger Sonata for flute and piano,” Ian Dicke’s “Chapter One, Part One for flute and electronics,” and Charles DeLaney’s “Hymn of Pan,” which was inspired by Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem of the same title. Hayes is a freelance flutist and music educator living in San Antonio. Admission is free and open to the public.

SFA Children’s Performing Arts Series present "Cinderella"

This crowd-pleasing original musical retells the classic story of the mistreated serving girl who gets her prince—in spite of her step-mother and step-sisters—with the help of her Fairy Godmother and a perfectly fitting glass slipper. SFA Planetarium Presents “Light Years from Andromeda”

Admission: $2 each

"Light Years From Andromeda" teaches the concepts of light speed, and the light year and how astronomers use them to measure distances to some familiar celestial objects— the Moon, the Sun, the planets, nearby stars, and galaxies. The show briefly touches on the properties of light that help determine a star’s age and temperature, and gives a fascinating look at how light and distance allow us to “look back” further in time as we gaze farther into space.

The 2010 Torchlight Parade will start at Surfin' Steve and continue to Raguet Street and then to Starr Street. The parade will feature the SFA spirit teams, the SFA marching band, and the SFA Ladyjack and Lumberjack mascots. The parade will end at the bonfire site on the Intramural Fields.

The annual SFA Homecoming Parade is the highlight of the homecoming weekend. Held on the streets of downtown Nacogdoches, this annual event features Homecoming royalty, student organizations, marching band and more than 100 parade entries.

Join the Alumni Association for some picnic food and a little shade under the massive tent at Lumberjack Alley. Tickets are $5. C.C. Smokehouse will cater hamburgers and hot dogs. Kids 7 and under are free! While at the picnic, catch up with old friends and make new ones.

   

Duck Dash

Lumberjack Alley is the setting for the annual running of the ducks. Toy ducks race to win prizes totaling $2,675. You don’t have to be present to win. Each duck entered in the race has a number that corresponds to the number of the assigned number sheet. Ducks are $5 for one duck or six ducks for $25. The recital is a part of the SFA School of Music’s Cole Performing Arts Series. Professor of tuba at the University of Texas-Pan American Roeder, who has won or placed in several regional and international tuba competitions, will perform works that illustrate the technical, lyrical and melodic possibilities of the tuba.
