10,000-year-old artifacts from Lake Naconiche excavation on display at courthouse

When excavation took place as part of the construction of Lake Naconiche, county officials expected to find artifacts from the Caddo Indians. But no one expected to find evidence of human occupation dating to the Paleoindian Period.

It was about 10,000 years ago that these Indians lived in East Texas, and the artifacts found, such as dart points and arrow points, were a welcome surprise for Stephen F. Austin State University Archeology Intern Perry Brown, he said. More

No, SFA isn't growing 'Treehenge'

A mysterious circle of trees just south of East Austin Street near the banks of Lanana Creek has motorists slowing down as they drive by, wondering "what is that?"

"Some people think it looks like some sort of religious thing out there," said Dr. David Creech, director of Stephen F. Austin gardens.

"There are not going to be any sacrifices or anything," he joked. More

It is impossible to "sweat like a pig."

Pigs do not have functional sweat glands, so pigs cool themselves using water or mud during hot weather. They also use mud as a form of sunscreen to protect their skin from sunburn.
