More than 1,000 cross stage as part of largest graduating class in school history

In the largest graduating class in school history, Stephen F. Austin State University saw more than 1,000 of its students receive degrees Saturday morning during the spring commencement ceremony at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

"Fifty-four percent of the students graduating today are the first students in their family to graduate from a four-year university," said SFA President Dr. Baker Pattillo as he addressed the crowd. "I'd like to say to those graduating seniors, we're very proud that you have done that at our university." More

 

During summer months, 'SFA Today' to be distributed weekly, not daily

Beginning Monday, May 24, "SFA Today" will be distributed weekly every Monday. This change will only be temporary during the summer months. News items must be received by Friday at noon prior to the week of desired inclusion.

To submit items to "SFA Today," use the online form or e-mail sfatoday@sfasu.edu. The announcements should apply to a significant number of faculty and/or staff members.

 

University has plan to cut budget $4M without layoffs

Stephen F. Austin State University has laid out a plan for how to save more than $4 million after Gov. Rick Perry announced in January that all state agencies would need to develop a plan to cut 5 percent out of their budget. More

Additional Banner student records training dates have been set for upcoming months through December 2010. The training dates includes training on holds, overrides and permits; registration; building the schedule of classes; grade entry; CAPP; coding student special populations; and Business Office training. NEW! SFA Procurement and Property Services and Angelina College Procurement Assistance Center are co-hosting the Deep East Texas Contracting Opportunities Conference Wednesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 20, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center. This is the only conference in East Texas that provides the opportuinity for veterans, women and minority-owned businesses and small businesses to interface with state and federal agences and government prime contractors. The event is free. An Exhibit Hall will open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that Friday. All SFA staff are invited to visit the Exhibit Hall.

KSAU 90.1 FM, the SFA campus radio station, is now 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The format is alternative rock. KSAU 90.1 FM is a student run radio station for students pursuing a degree in the radio/television field at SFA. Learn more about KSAU 90.1 FM online.

Judy Pfaff: Drawings and Prints

Created by the SFA School of Art, "Texas National" is celebrating its 16th year on the national scene.

The competition is open to all artists living and working in the United States. This year, juror Judy Pfaff chose 191 pieces by 162 artists.

Both shows run through Saturday, May 22. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. (936) 468-1131.
