SFA faculty to present all-Chopin recital
Pianist Dr. Geneva Fung and other members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music faculty will present a recital of solo piano and chamber works by Frédéric Chopin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.
The program, which is a celebration of Chopin's 201st birthday, will include Fung performing "Nocturne in C minor, Op. 48, No.1" as a soloist and as a collaborative artist with Professor Andrew Parr (piano), Associate Professor Jennifer Dalmas (violin) and cellist Evgeni Raychev, adjunct faculty.
Fung and Parr will present "Rondo in C major, Op. 48," and she and Dalmas will perform "Nocturne in C-sharp minor." read more

Regional Service Learning Conference call for presentation proposals
Proposals due by Friday, April 1
Texas Campus Compact will present a Regional Service Learning Conference on May 18 at SFA and invites proposals for concurrent conference presentations. The proposals are due by Friday, April 1. Confirmed presenters will be notified by Friday, April 15. The conference registration fee is waived for confirmed presenters, and the presenter is responsible for providing print materials, such as handouts, to session attendees. Sessions are limited to 50 minutes. Click here to submit a presentation proposal. The February Cyber Security Newsletter covers emerging trends and threats for 2011. The newsletter may be accessed at www.sfasu.edu/itsecurity. The year 2010 was another busy year for cyber security professionals and end users, as we faced a number of cyber security incidents and events. Twenty million new strains of malware were created (including new threats and variants of existing families), the same amount as 2009. The number of malicious websites identified in 2010 increased more than 100 percent from 2009. More than 11 million records were involved in data breaches in 2010. |

The SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Theatre will present an original adaptation of Oliver Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, through Saturday, March 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. Director Alan Nielsen transports this classic comedy of misunderstandings to Texas’ wild and wooly old west where a perceptive rancher’s daughter finds a unique way to get her shy, would-be suitor to fall in love with her. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, $9 for faculty/staff and $6 for students. |

Main St. The 52-minute documentary by Yves Billy and Richard Prost is a global investigation into the evolving nature of food production and the crisis it may portend. Admission is free. Area fifth through eighth graders art workshop

Area fifth through eighth graders may register for an art workshop to be held 10 a.m. to noon at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. participants will learn about forest pathogens; examine how local and national artists have depicted pathogens in The Edge of Life: Forest Pathology Art, which is currently on display at The Cole Art Center; and create an original artwork that represents a pathogen they find interesting. Classes will be taught by SFA art education majors under the guidance of Dawn Stienecker, SFA lecturer of art education. Registration for each class is $5 and covers the cost of the materials and refreshments. Parents may pre-register by e-mailing Stienecker at stieneckdg@sfasu.edu and providing the child’s name and age. |

Edge of Life: Forest Pathology Art is currently on exhibit in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329. E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. The exhibition, which is a collaborative project between the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, features artists from the SFA School of Art and ecological artists from across the nation.
