Research and learning center to prepare students for future
A nationwide initiative designed to increase students' knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math, otherwise known as STEM education, will soon be part of everyday life for some students at Stephen F. Austin State University.
"Across the nation, there is an effort to meet the urgent need for students who are prepared to enter careers in science and mathematics," Dr. Kimberly Childs, interim dean of the college of sciences and mathematics and director of SFA's future STEM Research and Learning center, said. "Nationally, we are in a situation much like Sputnik of 1957. We are falling behind in the global competition in mathematics and science." More |

Annual State Employee Charitable Campaign
It is time for the annual State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) benefiting various agencies and nonprofit organizations. Last year SFA employees contributed more than $15,000 to various agencies across Texas. This year our goal is to raise $20,000.
SECC has made it simple for faculty and staff to donate to their favorite agency and nonprofit organizations through an annual campaign. There are two ways employees can give. You can make a one-time donation via cash, check or payroll deduction.
Your donations go to those agencies and nonprofit organizations that you designate. You can contribute to causes that are near and dear to your heart. The minimum donation is $2.
The SECC will continue through Monday, Nov. 1. If you are interested in contributing to the annual SECC, please contact Gloria Montes at (936) 468-2188 or Amanda Horne at (936) 468-3723. |
