SFA Procurement and Property Services and Angelina College Procurement Assistance Center are co-hosting the Deep East Texas Contracting Opportunities Conference Wednesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 20, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center. This is the only conference in East Texas that provides the opportunity for veterans, women and minority-owned businesses and small businesses to interface with state and federal agencies and government prime contractors. The event is free. An Exhibit Hall will open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. All SFA staff are invited to visit the Exhibit Hall.
The SFA Gardens will host its monthly Les Reeves Garden Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110. Dr. Carlos Smith, award-winning Avoyelles Parish county agent from Mansura, La., will present an educational and entertaining lecture titled, “Plant Adaptations.” Smith is an associate professor of horticulture with the Louisiana State University AgCenter. Refreshments are served by the SFA Gardens volunteers before the lecture with a rare plant raffle being held afterward. The lecture is free and open to the public. Created by the SFA School of Art, "Texas National" is celebrating its 16th year on the national scene.
The competition is open to all artists living and working in the United States. This year, juror Judy Pfaff chose 191 pieces by 162 artists.
