ITS/Networking Department and Columbia Regional Geospatial Service Center are hosting three Cyber Security Training Events which are funded by Department of Homeland Security and developed by the Center of Information Assurance and Security. Reception and presentation by SFA’s award-winning student Advertising Team Thursday, May 6, at 5:30 p.m. The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House 329 E. Main St. The 19-member student team will present their original advertising campaign for client-sponsor State Farm, which was named first runner-up at the American Advertising Federation 10th District Competition. The competition, held in Amarillo, included 17 universities from a five-state area. SFA’s team is composed of students from the School of Art, the Division of Communication and Contemporary Culture, and the Department of Management, Marketing and International Business. Faculty members who oversaw the project were Michael Tubbs (art), Dr. Linda Bond (communication and contemporary culture) and Dr. Marlene Kahla and Barbara Bieber-Hamby (management, marketing and international business.) Joseph Haydn’s The Creation Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. W.M. Turner Auditorium The SFA combined choirs and orchestra, along with faculty and student soloists, will present one of music’s most beloved choral masterworks, Joseph Haydn’s The Creation. Written between 1796 and 1798, the oratorio expresses the Austrian composer's vision of the creation, as told in the Book of Genesis and in John Milton's "Paradise Lost." Tickets are $10 adult, $8 senior, $5 faculty, staff and students. Freedom Train Tuesday, May 11, from 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. W.M. Turner Auditorium P art of the Children’s Performing Arts Series. Target grades are third through ninth. Tickets are $6 for individuals and $5 for person for groups of 20 or more. TEXAS NATIONAL 2010 and Judy Pfaff: Drawings and Prints The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House 329 E. Main St. Created by the SFA School of Art, "Texas National" is celebrating its 16th year on the national scene. The competition is open to all artists living and working in the United States. This year, juror Judy Pfaff chose 191 pieces by 162 artists. Both shows run through Saturday, May 22. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. (936) 468-1131. Consumed: Fast Food in the US The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House 329 E. Main St. From the eating contests to the mascots designed to appeal to young children, Susana Raab’s 20 photographs capture the influence of the fast food franchise super powers and the saturation of their marketing strategies on everyday American life. The show will run through Saturday, May 15. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. |
