We live in an information age, but how can you direct your students to the proper resources if you're still searching for the card catalogue? Modern libraries are so much more than books and journals. This workshop will jump start your reintroduction to the SFA Library. Lead by Tina Oswald and Marty Turnage, the workshop will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, and again at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, in the Teaching Excellence Center (Steen Library 220A). It is that time of year to show gratitude to our wonderful student workers! The week of April 11 to 17, is Student Employee Appreciation Week! Student Employment coordinates a competition/recognition called “Student Employee of the Year!" This is a great opportunity for your department to nominate that one extraordinary student worker! The winner will be selected by a panel of judges from the nominations received in Student Employment. The downloadable form will explain how you can participate. The deadline is Thursday, April 15. The winner of “Student Employee of the Year" will receive a very nice certificate, a variety of donated gifts and a plaque that can be placed in his/her employing department! SFA Career Services invites you to their Spring Career Fair held on Wednesday, March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.  Marvin Hamlisch’s life in music is notable for its great versatility as well as substance. As composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards; and his groundbreaking show, “A Chorus Line”, received the Pulitzer Prize.
He is the composer of more than forty motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for “The Way We Were” and his adaptation of Scott Joplin’s music for “The Sting”, for which he received a third Oscar.

The SFA School of Theatre will present Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, through Saturday, March 6, in W.M.Turner Auditorium as part of the SFA College of Fine Arts’ University Series. Set in the 1950s on the South Side of Chicago, “A Raisin in the Sun”focuses on the Youngers, an African-American family, and the dreams each of its members is struggling to attain. Allen Oster directs the drama that made history in 1959 as the first play by a black woman to be produced on Broadway. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, $9 for SFA faculty and staff, and $6 for students. Karen Clarke Guest Violin Recital at 6 p.m., Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building. Joining Clarke for violin duos by Jean-Marie Leclair and Béla Bartók will be Jennifer Dalmas, SFA assistant professor of music. Pianist Ron Petti, SFA director of accompanying, will join Clarke on Johannes Brahms' "Sonata in A Major."

“Sara’s Book” film premiere (School of Art’s 2010 feature film) at 7 and 9 p.m., Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., downtown Nacogdoches. The movie centers on 16-year-old Sara whose world comes crashing down when her parents die in a car wreck. The book of quotes they had given her helps her survive the racially charged early 1970s when she is forming a bond with a young man named Ryan. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at 7:30 p.m., Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building. Included on the Aces’ program is “Tribute to Miles,” which is a medley of famous jazz pieces by Miles Davis, including "So What," "All Blues," "Seven Steps to Heaven" and "Milestones." The Axes’ program will be composed mostly of upbeat Latin and rock influenced charts, including a mambo arrangement of Clifford Brown’s “Blues Walk” and a thickly orchestrated arrangement of Pat Metheny’s “Song for Bilbao.” Tickets: $5 adult, $4 senior, $2.50 faculty & staff, $2 student.

Creative Art Saturday Artistic Clothing class for children ages 6 to 12 from 2 to 4 p.m., The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. Registration is $5 and covers the cost of the materials. Parents may pre-register by e-mailing Matthew Sutherlin at sutherlime@sfasu.edu. Registrations will also be accepted 30 minutes prior to the class, as space permits. Class size is limited to 20.

The Global Artistry of Leo and Diane Dillon now on display in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. Organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, this retrospective by the prolific American husband and wife team includes illustrations for African folktales to Scandinavian epics, from fantasy to science fiction. Handpicked from around the world by the artistic staff of American Ballet Theatre, the classical company of 12 dancers (ages 16-20) will present a varied program in three acts that includes "Interplay," excerpts from "Swan Lake" and "Le Corsaire, and new works created specifically for ABT II. The program is suitable for all ages. SFA faculty and staff are eligible for two half-price tickets in sections B and C ($14.50 and $8.50).
