The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Art and School of Music will premiere a new feature-length film, "Sara's Book," at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday, March 5, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. Admission is free and open to the public. |

SFA Career Services invites you to their Spring Career Fair held on Wednesday, March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center. Faculty and staff please encourage your students to attend this event. Results from past student surveys overwhelmingly show that students attend our fairs because of their professors, so thank you very much! Tuesday, March 2 – Saturday, March 6 The SFA School of Theatre will present Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, through Saturday, March 6, in W.M.Turner Auditorium as part of the SFA College of Fine Arts’ University Series. Set in the 1950s on the South Side of Chicago, “A Raisin in the Sun”focuses on the Youngers, an African-American family, and the dreams each of its members is struggling to attain. Allen Oster directs the drama that made history in 1959 as the first play by a black woman to be produced on Broadway. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, $9 for SFA faculty and staff, and $6 for students. Tuesday, March 2 Karen Clarke Guest Violin Recital at 6 p.m., Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building. Joining Clarke for violin duos by Jean-Marie Leclair and Béla Bartók will be Jennifer Dalmas, SFA assistant professor of music. Pianist Ron Petti, SFA director of accompanying, will join Clarke on Johannes Brahms' "Sonata in A Major." Admission is free. Friday, March 5 “Sara’s Book” film premiere (School of Art’s 2010 feature film) at 7 and 9 p.m., Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., downtown Nacogdoches. The movie centers on 16-year-old Sara whose world comes crashing down when her parents die in a car wreck. The book of quotes they had given her helps her survive the racially charged early 1970s when she is forming a bond with a young man named Ryan. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at 7:30 p.m., Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building. Included on the Aces’ program is “Tribute to Miles,” which is a medley of famous jazz pieces by Miles Davis, including "So What," "All Blues," "Seven Steps to Heaven" and "Milestones." The Axes’ program will be composed mostly of upbeat Latin and rock influenced charts, including a mambo arrangement of Clifford Brown’s “Blues Walk” and a thickly orchestrated arrangement of Pat Metheny’s “Song for Bilbao.” Tickets: $5 adult, $4 senior, $2.50 faculty & staff, $2 student.
