Ask a Question, Save a Life, Learn QPR • The SFA Counseling Center is offering several suicide intervention training sessions throughout the semester for faculty, staff and students. In less than two hours, you can learn helpful information on how to intervene and safe a life. The first training session for Spring 2010 is Monday, Feb. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. Seating is limited so register by calling (936) 468-2401. The trainings are located in the Counseling Center on the third floor of the Rusk Building.
SFA to host lecture on Nacogdoches’ role in Underground Railroad • The Stone Fort Museum will sponsor a lecture on Nacogdoches’ involvement in the Underground Railroad, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, in the Temple Forestry Building, Room 117. Rolanda Teal, an anthropologist with expertise in plantation systems and the African Diaspora, will give the lecture titled “Nacogdoches: A Destination Site Along the Underground Railroad.” She also is the co-founder of Cultural Lore, an anthropological consulting agency. Co-sponsors of the lecture include the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture and the East Texas Research Center.  Feb. 22 through 26 is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and we have all come together to have adisplay on body image that will incorporate pictures of models throughout the years, a before and after touch up on a magazine cover, measurements of Barbie if she were a real person, comparison of GI Joe measurements with Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as inspirational quotes and education. There will be a SFA Dietician with interns and students from campus recreation to answer questions on nutrition and healthy exercise. Licensed Professional Counselors will be available every day from 11a.m. to 2p.m. The display will be located by Bleeker Street in the Baker Pattillo Student Center and accessible all week.
