Holiday programming to be featured on SFA-TV2
 SFA-TV2, the Stephen F. Austin State University television station, will air holiday shows continuously Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The programs were produced by students in Dr. Al Greule's advanced television-production course.
The main highlight of the programming is George Frideric Handel's "Messiah," performed at SFA on Dec. 10. Dr. Tim King of the SFA School of Music direct d SFA's combined choirs, Orchestra of the Pines and Nacogdoches Community Chorus, including hundreds of students, faculty and community members, in part 1 of "Messiah," popularly known as "the Christmas portion" and the famous "Hallelujah Chorus." More than 900 receive degrees
 Sequined black caps and sashes of every color could be seen on most graduates during Stephen F. Austin State University's December graduation ceremony Saturday, when more than 900 degrees were awarded.
After the graduates filed into their seats in William R. Johnson Coliseum, university President Dr. Baker Pattillo welcomed the students and their families. More

SFA art galleries closed for portion of break
The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University's art gallery located in downtown Nacogdoches, will be closed for a portion of the university's semester break.
The Art Center will be open as usual from Tuesday, Dec. 20, through Thursday, Dec. 23, but then close until Tuesday, Jan. 4, except by appointment. Normal hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. More |

Tickets to sports comedy make unique gift
 For anyone who is still looking for unique holiday gift ideas, the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts may have just the solution-tickets to "The Complete World of Sports (abridged)" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.
This fast-paced comedy, which takes the audience through the world of sports at record-breaking speed, is the newest spoof of the three-man comedy troupe, the Reduced Shakespeare Company, also known as "the Bad Boys of Abridgement." More

As part of its monthly independent film series, the SFA School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free one-night screening of Helvetica at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. Gary Hustwit’s documentary about typography, graphic design and global visual culture invites viewers to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day. It includes interviews with some of the most illustrious and innovative names in the design world. The screening is sponsored in part by The Daily Sentinel and Nacogdoches Junior Forum. Rufus Butler Seder: LIFETILES is currently on display in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. The exhibition features “Movies for the Wall,” optical glass-tiled murals that appear to come to life, change, and move as the viewer passes by. The show runs through Saturday, March 26. Fabric of African Culture, a powerful exhibition that celebrates the expressive quality of the work and artistic expression inherent in the cultures of Africa, is open in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. Displayed with an eye for the variety of materials and the regional influences, the items represent over 500 years of history and tribes from across the continent. Fabric of African Culture, which is part of the College of Fine Arts’ University Series, replaces the originally scheduled Storm Chasers and will run through Saturday, Jan. 15.
