Scholarship applications available for
SFA's Music Preparatory Division
 Scholarship applications are now being accepted for music instruction through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division. The partial tuition scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and can be applied to private lessons or group instruction.
Application forms are available on the division's website, www.music.sfasu.edu/prep (under Resources), or may be picked up either at the Music Preparatory Division Office, 3028 Raguet St., or in the SFA School of Music Office, Room 150 of the Wright Music Building. More

Tickets now on sale for SFA’s 2010 Chamber Music
in the Pines Festival
 Tickets are now available for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music’s 2010 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, and as the festival’s title indicates, there’s “Something for Everyone” in the four concerts being presented Saturday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 15.
“SFA music faculty and guest artists will be performing a wide range of musical styles throughout the week, with each concert having a different focus and mood,” said Jennifer Dalmas, SFA associate professor of violin and the festival’s director. More

The SFA School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “No Impact Man: The Documentary” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. Laura Gabbert and Justin Schein’s 93-minute film follows the Manhattan-based Beavan family as they abandon their high consumption 5th Avenue lifestyle and try to live a year without making an environmental impact.  The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will open the 2010 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, Something for Everyone, with the Something Old concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, in Cole Concert Hall, located at 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus. SFA faculty and guest musicians will perform Mozart’s “Quintet for Horn and Strings,” Schumann’s “Piano Quartet in E flat” and Brahms’ “Piano Quartet in G minor.” Tickets to individual concerts are $10 adult, $7.50 senior, $5 SFA faculty/staff and student. Series packages for all four concerts are $30 adult, $22.50 senior, $15 SFA faculty/staff and student. |

Something New, the second of four concerts included in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music’s 2010 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in Cole Concert Hall, located at 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus. The Acme Trombone Company, which includes SFA Associate Professor Deb Scott, will perform a program of trombone quartets. Tickets are $10 adult, $7.50 senior, $5 SFA faculty/staff and student. |

Austin State University School of Music will present Something Borrowed, the third of four concerts included in the 2010 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, in Cole Concert Hall, located at 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus. Guest musicians Ivo Ivanov (violin) and Misha Galaganov (viola) join SFA faculty members Jennifer Dalmas (violin) and Evgeni Raychev (cello) in performing a string trio and two quartets. The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will close the 2010 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival with the Something Blue concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, in Cole Concert Hall, located at 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus. The concert, featuring “bluesy” works such as songs by Gershwin and Porter, will introduce Nathan Nabb, SFA’s new associate professor of saxophone, performing with other SFA faculty musicians. Tickets are $10 adult, $7.50 senior, $5 SFA faculty/staff and student. |

Want to help with the relief efforts in the Gulf? Visit "Save the Gulf: Olivia Bouler's Bird Illustrations" at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., and purchase artwork by the 11-year-old New York artist who has single-handedly raised over $125,000 for relief funds by selling her art. Twenty-five illustrations and five prints are included in the exhibition the School of Art is presenting. A silent auction for the illustrations is still going on, and the prints are available for a set price. SFA's exhibition is Bouler's first one-person show and the first exhibition of her artwork for Gulf disaster relief. All proceeds benefit not-for-profit organizations including the Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation and the Audubon Society. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131. |
