NEW! ERS will be also be holding nine feedback sessions across the state to share the results from the recent survey and changes that the ERS Board of Trustees will consider at its May 25 board meeting. If you are unable to attend a session, you will be able to see the material on possible health insurance cost changes on the ERS Web site beginning Thursday, May 6.
NEW! A Transfer Orientation session will be held on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Movie Theater. Transfer students and their parents/family members will be attending various information sessions, meeting with academic advisers and registering for classes. Applications for the 2010 Lumberjack Leadership Academy are online and ready for students! The Lumberjack Leadership Academy (LLA) is a year-long leadership development program that integrates service learning and leadership development strategies to assist students in developing the skills necessary to lead effectively. There is no cost to participate in this program. Applications for the 2010-2011 LLA will be available online and are due by Friday, May 14. Students must be nominated by a staff member to apply; no letter of recommendation is necessary, as we will contact the staff member by phone to discuss your candidacy for the program. The Office of Student Affairs offers Service Learning Grants each semester to faculty and staff who are interested in implementing a service learning element to their class. Grants are limited to $500 or less, and approximately five to seven are awarded each semester, depending on available funding. Applications for fall 2010 grants are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, and notifications will be made one week later. TEXAS NATIONAL 2010 and Judy Pfaff: Drawings and Prints now display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. Created by the SFA School of Art, "Texas National" is celebrating its 16th year on the national scene. The competition is open to all artists living and working in the United States. This year, juror Judy Pfaff chose 191 pieces by 162 artists. Both shows run through Saturday, May 22. Consumed: Fast Food in the US now on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. From the eating contests to the mascots designed to appeal to young children, Susana Raab’s 20 photographs capture the influence of the fast food franchise super powers and the saturation of their marketing strategies on everyday American life. The show will run through Saturday, May 15. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

A team of forestry students from Stephen F. Austin State University recently placed second at the 2010 Association of Southern Forestry Clubs Forestry Conclave at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
The SFA School of Theatre will be holding open auditions for the Summer Repertory Season at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in Room 311 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building. All SFA students are welcome, regardless of major or classification.
George Foreman's life is one the most inspiring "rags to riches" stories of East Texas, and Thursday night he shared that story as the first special guest of the Archie McDonald Speaker Series. The event, which highlighted Foreman for his unique American cultural experience, will be held annually to promote Stephen F. Austin State University and enlighten the community by hosting such distinguished individuals.
