NEW! Child and Family Development Students Receive National Recognition! Human Sciences students Kaitlyn Wray, Jenna Kettler and Tara Jones recently received Honors Recognition from the National Council on Family Relations. To be eligible for this award, students, must have made outstanding and enduring contributions to the field of family science in three areas: scholarship (3.50 GPA or higher), leadership and community service. The article titled "The Byzantine Gladiolus" written by Greg Grant, research associate with SFA Gardens, was recently published in "Neil Sperry's Gardens." The article discussed brilliant heritage perennial for southern gardens. Grant also published "Out with the New, In with the Old" in "Texas Gardner," which discussed pass-a-long heirloom plants that survive in Texas gardens. Also the publication, "Texas Live," publishes his article "Granny's Garden," which is a story about his grannies and how they influenced his gardening.
Are you Spring Cleaning, but you don't want to just throw away those reusable household items such as couches, chairs, appliances, beds, etc.? Donate them to a local family in need through the Encourager Program Furniture Drive through Love in the Name of Christ. As a service learning project, social work students are spearheading the collection of goods for a family in the area. Volunteers and trucks/trailers are also needed for delivery. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Love, INC. located at 917 Ruby St. in Nacogdoches. You can drop off donations before or on April 10! NEW! The School of Human Sciences Honors Convocation and Reception will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Regents Suite A. The annual event recognizes and awards outstanding Human Sciences alumni, students and faculty. The 2010 honoree is Robert Levy, who is a 2001 graduate of the School of Human Sciences Hospitality Administration Program and currently the General Manager for Springhill by Marriott in Austin. He is a native of Nacogdoches and is the son of Robert and Charlotte Levy of Nacogdoches.
Don’t forget! Student Employee Appreciation Week is April 11 to 17. During this week please make your student workers feel appreciated! The Educational Leadership Doctoral Program in the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership at SFA is a 66 credit hour doctoral program that provides an opportunity for an emphasis in Higher Education Administration. NEW! The Project Unity Step Show will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 16, in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Project Unity Step Show is an event produced by students to celebrate student unity on the campus of SFA. Step shows have a long and proud history, and if you've never seen one - be prepared to be amazed. This is more than just stomping to a beat, this is the uniting of one sound, one community. The Department of Computer Science is launching a Summer Workshop Program designed to provide K-12 educators the opportunity to enhance their technology skills. Beginning in June, The 2010 Workshop Program includes a variety of basic computing topics -- spreadsheets, presentations, web page design -- plus topics in robotics and storytelling using virtual worlds. In addition, the department has developed a Summer Camp Program designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the variety of computing topics through the use of robotics and virtual worlds.  The Original Cast, SFA’s musical theatre-cabaret troupe, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with Almost Legal.
7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, through Saturday, April 10, plus a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.
The 14-member cast will perform highlights from the 20 years’ worth of original musical revues director Allen Nielsen has written for the group.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for seniors, SFA faculty and staff and students.

Samuel Rothbort now on display in Griffith Gallery, Room 208 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building. The exhibition of paintings and sculptures by the renowned artist marks the first time SFA has displayed the collection of Rothbort’s works recently acquired for its permanent collection, including pieces which have never before been exhibited publicly. Consumed: Fast Food in the US now on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. From the eating contests to the mascots designed to appeal to young children, Susana Raab’s 20 photographs capture the influence of the fast food franchise super powers and the saturation of their marketing strategies on everyday American life. The show will run through Saturday, May 15. Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

It may just revolutionize personal computing for the 21st century, but neither students nor faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University can use their brand new Apple iPads to access the Internet through the school's campuswide Wi-Fi network.
Efforts to count every student living on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus gets under way today. SFA's Resident Life staff is receiving census packets that will be handed to students living in dorms and campus apartments starting Monday, and the deadline to turn them in is April 14.
