Dr. Rashdan will speak about the fundamental principles
of Islam and discuss the distortions and misconceptions
of these principles that have occurred, particularly in
light of current events. He will also discuss the similarities
and differences between humanism and Islam, and the underlying
similarites among all major religions. |
| Speaker biography: |
Jon retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in December 1998, after having served over 20 years as both an Officer in the United States Army and as an Infantry Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant after graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1981. Jon served as an artillery officer for 9 years
and commanded two artillery batteries in Germany. During this time he also taught ROTC at SFA. In 1990 Jon deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the US Army Special Operations Command as a Civil Affairs Officer. In 1997, he deployed as the commander the American Contingent and was in charge of officers from 21 different nations during a 6-month tour with the United Nations Observer Mission In Georgia (UNOMIG). |
