ÔToying With ScienceÕ opens SFAÕs ChildrenÕs Performing
Arts Series
Garry Krinsky
will use circus skills, mime, original music and audience involvement
to explore scientific principles during ÒToying With Science,Ó
a program offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University ChildrenÕs
Performing Arts Series, at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
Oct. 13, in W. M. Turner Auditorium.
Since creating the program with a commission from the Museum of Science in Boston
in 1995, Krinsky has toured across North America, making stops at festivals and
theaters. He has also appeared on the NBC ÒTodayÓ show and at ÒLincoln Center
Out of Doors.Ó
Diane Flynn, director of the ChildrenÕs Performing Arts Series, said KrinskyÕs
show fits in perfectly with the seriesÕ mission to provide curriculum-enhancing
programs for area school children.
ÒBecause GarryÕs show appeals to kindergartners through 12th graders, our ticket
sales have been great. We still have seats available, but teachers or parents
who are considering attending should go ahead and place their orders. I fully
expect both shows to sell out,Ó Flynn said.
Tickets are $6 for individuals and $5 for groups of 20 or more.
ÒThereÕs also still time to take advantage of season tickets for the series,
and in essence, see one show for free,Ó Flynn added.
Season tickets are $24. The other programs on the series are ÒLittle RedÕs Most
Unusual Day,Ó a childrenÕs opera of ÒLittle Red Riding Hood,Ó on Tuesday, Nov.
16; excerpts from the ballet ÒCinderellaÓ on Friday, Feb. 4; ÒJunie B. Jones,Ó
a musical adaptation of the popular books by Barbara Park, on Thursday, March
3; and a musical version of ÒFrom the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. FrankweilerÓ
on Wednesday, April 6.
ÒToying With ScienceÓ and the other programs on the ChildrenÕs Performing Arts
Series are presentations of the Stephen F. Austin State University College of
Fine Arts and are sponsored in part by Burns, Morris and Stewart, L.P.
