SFA to offer adult piano class

Adults wanting to learn to play the piano or those wanting to brush up on their little-used piano skills can sign up for an adult piano class offered this fall by the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division.

Dr. Ping-Ting Lan, instructor for the Music Preparatory Division, will teach the 10-week course that will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday from Oct. 5 to Dec. 7. Classes will be held in the piano lab, Room 302 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus. Enrollment is limited to 16 students.

Adults often resist the urge to learn to play piano because they are self-conscious about their age and don't want to be involved in a typical studio where most beginners are elementary-aged children, explained Pat Barnett, Music Preparatory Division director.

"This course eliminates the fear of being an outsider. The adults can support each other in reaching their similar goals," Barnett said.

"The course is designed for any adult who wants to have fun learning to play the piano," said Lan.

Cost for the course is $145, including materials.

Registration forms can be completed in the Music Preparatory Office, Room 105A of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus. Barnett encourages potential students to register by Friday, Oct. 1.

For more information, please call Barnett at (936) 468-1291 or Lan at (936) 468-1277.
