Scott LaGraff, newly hired vocal instructor at Stephen F. Austin State University, will make his Nacogdoches performing debut at the Pi Kappa Lambda Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in Cole Concert Hall.  

 

SFA music faculty to be featured in recital

Faculty members from the Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Music will share their talents to raise scholarship money during the Pi Kappa Lambda Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 23, in Cole Concert Hall.

The annual recital features vocalists and instrumentalists performing a wide range of music, according to Dr. Kirsten Nelson, SFA assistant professor of music and president of the local chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda.

ÒThe program will include everything from traditional classical music to modern art music to jazz,Ó she said.

The recital marks the first Nacogdoches performance for Scott LaGraff, newly hired vocal instructor at SFA. The baritone is completing his doctoral degree from Louisiana State University. He received his masterÕs degree from State University of New York at Binghampton and his bachelorÕs degree from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has given professional recitals in Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

Other vocalists included on the program are Debbie Berry, soprano; and Deborah Dalton and Nita Hudson, mezzo sopranos.

Instrumentalists include Diane Boyd-Schultz, flute; Christopher Ayer and Tom Houston, clarinet; Brian Utley, saxophone; Scott Harris, percussion; Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Evgeni Raychev, cello; Jeff Jacobsen, bass; and pianists Mary Cooper, Ping-Ting Lan, Andrew Parr, Linda Parr, Ron Petti, James Pitts and Shirley Watterston.

Pi Kappa Lambda is a national honorary music organization. Proceeds from the recital will benefit the Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship awarded by the local chapter.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
