Spicy, Shady Business at the SFA Mast Arboretum
Gardeners looking to add some exotic spice or cool shade to their space
need look no further than the Stephen F. Austin State University
Mast Arboretum for advice.
Arboretum research associate Dawn Stover will present ÒGinger and Spice and Other
Things Nice,Ó a Les Reeves Lecture Series event, at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 in Room 110
of the Agriculture Building.
The presentation will explore the world of gingers and tropical plants that have
shown promise in the East Texas climate. The event is free, and a plant raffle
will follow.
Stover also will present ÒMade in the Shade,Ó an SFA Mast Arboretum Garden Seminar,
from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 18 in the Agriculture Building Room 118.
Seminar attendees will learn how to create a favorable environment and choose
the right plants for a Nacogdoches shade garden. After the in-depth lecture,
Stover will guide a tour of the arboretumÕs own shade garden.
Cost for the seminar is $20, and pre-registration is requested. To reserve space,
