Free SFA workshop to help educators improve academic
programs
Stephen F. Austin State University is accepting registrations until
Monday, Sept. 20, for a Sept. 21 workshop to help educators use Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test data to improve academic
programs and TAKS scores.
The Just for the Kids (JFTK) workshop is scheduled 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Tuesday
at SFA and is being offered as a free service to the public schools, according
to Janet Simonds, credential testing coordinator in the College of Education.
Representatives from high performing Texas high schools will present information
on how their schools used the JFTK system to improve programs.
JFTK is a national non-profit organization designed to raise academic standards
and increase student learning. The organization, which operates through grants
from corporate entities across the nation, is sponsored in Texas by the National
Center for Educational Accountability, an organized research unit at the University
of Texas at Austin.
JFTK analyzes school test data, such as TAKS, to identify how well schools are
performing. Then the organization studies the highest performing schools to find
out what works and to develop tools and training to help other schools replicate
best practices. JFTKÕs data and self-audit tools are available free on the organizationÕs
Web site at www.just4kids.org.
Participants will be eligible for three hours of Continuing Professional Units.
For more information or to register, call (936) 468-1402.
