SFA Planetarium to Present ÔOceans in SpaceÕ
ÒOceans in Space,Ó the SFA PlanetariumÕs newest show, will be presented
at 7 p.m. Fridays through Oct. 15.
Narrator Avery Brooks, star of ÒStar Trek: Deep Space Nine,Ó will lead a thought-provoking
exploration of the required conditions for life on a planet and the search for
life on planets other than Earth. Inspired in part by the goals of NASAÕs Origins
Program, the show introduces audiences to the diversity of life on our home planet
even as humans embark on the search for life in the universe.
The show travels back in time more than five billion years to trace the origin
and evolution of the solar system from a cloud of gas and dust to the formation
of EarthÕs oceans and favorable requirements for life.
Because life currently exists in extreme environments on Earth, like volcano
vents and ocean floors, the show then takes viewers on a journey to other places
where scientists are exploring similarly extreme conditions in the search for
life. The search for other life-bearing planets moves to the Orion nebula and
explains one technique todayÕs scientists use to look for extrasolar planets.
Admission for the show is $2. For information, call 468-3009 or visit the Web
site at www.physics.sfasu.edu.
