SFA faculty present piano trio
Three members of the Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty
will present a Faculty Piano Trio Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.
14, in Cole Concert Hall.
Violinist Jennifer Dalmas, assistant professor; cellist Evgeni Raychev, adjunct
faculty; and Ron Petti, director of accompanying; will perform trios by Joseph
Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn and Joaquin Turina. The selections span three centuries
and offer a wide range of styles.
On Haydn's "Piano Trio in E major," Petti will play the harpsichord,
the keyboard instrument for which the piece was originally written in 1771.
Mendelssohn's "C Minor Trio," written in 1845, is one of the major
staples of the piano trio repertoire and "a showcase for the pianist," said
Dalmas.
Composed in 1926,Turina's "Piano Trio" contains elements of impressionism
and jazz. According to Dalmas, Turina is a wonderful composer who is sometimes
referred to as the "Spanish Debussy."
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department
of Music.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
