Amazon Rainforest Researchers To Speak at SFA
Two researchers from the Botanical Research Institute of Texas will
visit Nacogdoches to discuss results of their work.
Dr. John Janovec, director of the Andes to the Amazon project, will discuss his
work in Peru and the opportunities for study and research in the area at a Dutch-treat
dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday at Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, 3308 North St. Janovec
is an authority on the geography and economics of the Peruvian Amazon, and his
project is a long-term ecological study of land from the cloud forests of the
Andes to lowland Amazonian rainforest.
On Monday, Amanda Neill, collection manager for the research institute, will
present a seminar ÒVascular Flora of Madison County, TexasÓ at noon in Miller
Science Building Room 137 on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. Neill
will discuss the collection, identification and preservation of vascular plants,
patterns of plant communities and analysis of flora.
