University sponsoring spring art tour to Amsterdam


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are being accepted for an art tour to Amsterdam Sunday, May 14, to Sunday, May 21, sponsored by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art.

Accompanying the group will be SFA faculty members Charles Jones and Bradley Bailey. Participants may tour Amsterdam on their own or join Jones and Bailey in exploring the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Stedeliijk Art Museum, the Cobra Museum and the Rembrandt Museum.

Other points of interest include the Museum van Loon, a canal house with an authentic old interior; the Anne Frank House; the Sloten Windmill; the New Church and the Old Church.

Amsterdam is also home to 12,000 bridges, 160 canals, flower and diamond markets, and science, history and culture museums. Visitors can browse and shop in assorted bookstores, antique shops, flea markets and specialty shops and dine in a variety of restaurants. In addition, April through May is the peak viewing season for tulip and daffodil blooms.

Registration is $1,650 per person and includes a round-trip bus ride from SFA to George Bush Intercontinental Airport, round-trip flight to Amsterdam, seven nights in a double occupancy hotel room and a one-day trip to the Kroller-Muller Museum and Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe.

Participants will be responsible for museum fees; taxi, bus, tram or metro fees; meals and personal expenses.

Registration is limited to the first 40 travelers. The sign-up deadline is Monday, Oct. 17. First payment is due by Thursday, Nov. 10, and the balance is due by Wednesday, Feb. 15. The trip is non-cancelable, and payments are not refundable.
