University presents guest flute recital
Amsler, assistant professor at Florida State University, will perform works by Johann Sebastian. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Franz Schubert, Carl Philipp Bach, Ulrich Gasser and Francis Poulenc. Also, Amsler and Christina Guenther-Scott, SFA visiting assistant professor, will play "Currents" for two flutes by Alan Scott, SFA adjunct faculty member. Ron Petti, SFA assistant professor, will provide piano accompaniment. Prior to her appointment at Florida State University faculty, Amsler was a faculty member at the State Conservatory of Music in Feldkirch, Austria, teaching flute, pedagogy and chamber music. She is a pioneer on the Boehm-system wooden flute. She was a member of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland for 20 years, plays actively with The Dorian Consort as a soloist and has appeared in recitals, concerts and master classes in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. Amsler has recorded several compact discs on the Ambitus and Cavalli labels, and her performances have been broadcast in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Scandinavia and the United States. While on campus, Amsler will present a master class for SFA flute students and a body awareness class open to all SFA music students.
