Bullock to conduct two of his marches at SFA concert
Bullock will conduct two of his own marches, "The Spine of The Devil" and "The Whirlwind." "Mr. Bullock has a particular flair for writing marches," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands. "These two pieces definitely show his heritage as an East Texas Band Director. They are exciting and energetic." Bullock, a Lufkin native, began his teaching career in Diboll. From 1964 to 1987, he taught in Lufkin, first at the junior high and then at the high school. He has also worked with the Garrison, Huntington and Hemphill band programs and is currently serving as a consultant to the Nacogdoches bands. In 1994, Bullock was inducted into the SFA Band Directors Hall of Fame, and in 2002, into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame. He continues to serve as a consultant, clinician and adjudicator throughout Texas and the surrounding states. Under Allen's direction, the Wind Ensemble will perform works by William Schumann and Alfred Reed and Paul Hindemith's "Symphony in B flat." "The symphony will be the highlight of the concert," said Allen. "It is one of the most widely respected pieced played by university bands." Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
