Chamber Orchestra to present concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Chamber Orchestra will present works by Felix Mendelssohn, W.A. Mozart and Joseph Haydn during its concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Cole Concert Hall. The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts, School of Music and Orchestra Series.

Under the direction of Jeff Jacobsen, SFA's director of orchestra studies, the orchestra will perform "Scherzo" and "Nocturne" from Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Mozart's "Divertimento K 138," which was written when the composer was 17 or 18 years old.

The orchestra will also perform Haydn's "Symphony No. 85," one of the six symphonies known as the "Paris Symphonies" because they were written between 1885 and 1886 for the Concerts Spirituels in Paris.

The concert is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, Ed and Gwen Cole and the Wedgeworth-Wright Endowment for the Arts.
