Percussion Ensemble to present concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Percussion Ensemble in its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Cole Concert Hall.

The 16-member group will perform works from a variety of percussion and musical styles, including Scott Harding's "Taiko," a piece based on traditional Japanese drumming which is a very athletic style of playing, similar to martial arts, said Scott Harris, SFA assistant professor of music and the ensemble's director.

The group will also perform John Cage's "Living Room Music," using nontraditional instruments such as books, lamps and coffee tables.

Harrell Hodges, graduate student from Kerrville, will conduct "Three Brothers" by Michael Colgrass.
