NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division will present a series of recitals in December, showcasing the students enrolled in harp, guitar, piano, voice and string classes. The recitals are free and open to the public.

On Monday, Dec. 6, harp students of Alison Read will perform at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Herb Midgley's guitar students will present their recital in the same hall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Piano students will perform in one of four recitals scheduled within an eight-day period. On Sunday, Dec. 12, students of Mary Cooper will perform at 2 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall. Cello and violin students of Dr. Evgeni Raychev, Dr, Jennifer Dalmas and Miranda Cantwell will present their recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Music Recital Hall, and Suzuki violin students of Brenda Josephsen will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, in Cole Concert Hall.

The Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Raychev, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in Cole Concert Hall.

The recitals serve as a culmination of the semester's work, said Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division.

"Teachers and students work very hard to achieve a performance level, and the recitals provide an opportunity for both to reap the rewards of practice and to create music for others' enjoyment," Barnett said.

Registration for the spring semester is already underway, according to Barnett.

"We offer everything from Kindermusik classes for young children to private lessons, and even adult piano classes," said Barnett. "Parents can check out our Web site, www.music.sfasu.edu/prep, for a complete listing of our classes and registration forms, or come by the Music Preparatory Office located in Room 150A of the Wright Music Building."

Barnett said the recital schedule is also available on the Web site.
