"A Christmas Carol" coming to SFA
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Ebeneezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and the ghosts
of Christmas past, present and future will come to life on the W. M. Turner
Auditorium stage as Troupe America brings Charles Dickens' "A Christmas
Carol" to Nacogdoches at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6.
"The show promises to be a festive occasion
for the entire family," said Diane Flynn, box office manager. "The
award-winning set, beautiful costumes and the inclusion of traditional
carols will transport the audience back to Victorian London."
While the storyline remains true to Dickens' novel, the creative team
behind the production has created a spectacular production for the
stage, said Sylvia Bierschenk, SFA arts information director. The script
was written by prize-winning playwright Buffy Sedlachek, and the original
music is by Kevin Rotty, who also created music for the national tours
of "A Legend of Saint Nicholas" and "Miracle
on 34th Street."
The show also includes special effects created by illusionist Franz
Harary, creator of illusions for Michael Jackson and David Copperfield.
The set, designed by Larry Kaushansky, was chosen by Theatre Craft
Magazine in 1996 as one of the 10 most beautiful set designs for the
year.
Troupe America is in its 18th season of producing for the touring theater
market with such hits as "The Odd Couple" starring
Jamie Farr and William Christopher, "Moon Over Buffalo" starring
Gavin MacLeod and "The Sunshine Boys" starring Dick Van Patten
and Frank Gorshin.
Prior to the performance, the College of Fine Arts will host a 6:45
p.m. reception in Griffith Gallery to honor the event's corporate sponsor,
Nacogdoches Medical Center. At 7 p.m. Dr. Richard Berry, dean of the
college, will give an informative talk about the production.
Adult tickets range from $15 to $30, and discounts are available for
seniors, students and children.
"We still have many good seats available, but we anticipate brisk
sales once we return from the Thanksgiving Break," Flynn said.
