Trayler to guest conduct SFA Wind Ensemble
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College
of Fine Arts and Department of Music will present Dr. Charles Trayler
as the guest conductor of the SFA Wind Ensemble at 2:30 p.m. Sunday,
Nov. 21, in W. M. Turner Auditorium.
Trayler, who is a past president of the Texas
Bandmasters Association, will lead the Wind Ensemble in ÒFour Scottish
DancesÕ by Malcolm Arnold and in a band setting of the choral work
ÒAlleluiaÓ by Randall Thompson.
Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands, studied under Trayler at Abilene
Christian University.
ÒDr. Trayler is an outstanding conductor and an inspiring teacher.
He is well known in Texas and the southwest for his exemplary work
with bands,Ó Allen said.
While on campus, Trayler will present guest lectures to three SFA music
classes.
The Wind Ensemble also will perform Austin composer Donald GranthamÕs
ÒSouthern Harmony,Ó a multi-movement work based on hymns from a 19th-century
American hymnbook.
