SFA to present clarinet and piano concert
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College
of Fine Arts and Department of Music will present Duo Karudan, a
duet featuring Christopher Ayer on clarinet and Kae Hosoda-Ayer on
piano, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in Cole Concert Hall.
The husband/wife team will present works by Krysztof
Pendericki, Pierre Gabaye, LŽo Weiner and Fancis Poulenc. Despite the
fact that each of the works was composed between 1951 and 1962, each
has a different style, said Ayer.
ÒThe program has a little bit of everythingÑsome Hungarian influenced melodies
and rhythms, a little jazz, and some French circus music,Ó Ayer explained.
ÒThe music is fun and accessible.Ó
Ayer is an assistant professor of music at SFA and the coordinator of clarinet
studies. He earned his doctoral degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory
of Music and his masterÕs in clarinet performance from the New England Conservatory.
A member of the Stone Fort Wind Quintet and principal clarinetist for the Orchestra
of the Pines, Ayer is also an active recitalist.
Hosoda-Ayer is a faculty member with the SFA Music Preparatory Division. She
received her masterÕs from the New England Conservatory of Music after completing
her bachelorÕs at Toho Gakuen School in Tokyo. She is currently pursuing her
doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin where in April 2004
she won first prize in the Sidney Wright Endowed Presidential Scholarship Competition
in Piano Accompanying. She has concertized throughout the United State and
Japan as a soloist and accompanist.
