SFA art exhibition features SFA and McMichael
studentsÕ work
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS Ð Stephen F. Austin State University art education
majors and McMichael Middle School students are sharing gallery space
during the ÒPlan III ShowÓ which runs through Friday, Nov. 12, in
the back gallery of the SFA Art Building.
The free exhibition is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
and the public is invited to the closing reception at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 11.
The SFA students, all completing courses under the art departmentÕs
Plan III, have been working with the middle school students this fall,
teaching lessons on drawing, digital art and printmaking.
The products of these lessons will be exhibited along with works created
by the SFA students in various studio classes.
The exhibition gives the public a chance to see the works by the two
groups and also provides practical experience for the SFA students,
said Anita Powell, SFA assistant professor of art.
ÒThe art education majors learn to properly install an art show, host
a reception, advertise the exhibit with handmade posters, use the artworks
in the exhibition for a practice critique session and evaluate their
teaching using self-reflection sheets that were filled out by the kids
at the end of each section,Ó Powell explained.
