Registration open for SFA's Creative Saturday

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Children ages 8 to 12 may attend a hands-on art workshop on paper sculpture during the Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Art's Creative Saturday on May 14. The session will last from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Art Center, 329 E. Main Street, and is limited to the first 20 registrants.

Participants will learn about the current exhibition at The Art Center, "Texas National 2005," and then create their own artwork under the guidance of Marsha Blount, Nacogdoches Independent School District art consultant. Art students from SFA and Nacogdoches High School will assist with the instruction. Parents are welcome to stay and observe.

Following the workshop, students' artwork will be on display on the second floor of The Art Center until Tuesday, May 24. Galley hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

Cost of the workshop is $10 per child and includes supplies and snacks. Parents may register their child by e-mailing Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu or by calling Shannon Bailey, SFA gallery director, at (936) 468-1131. Registrations will also be accepted on the morning of the workshop, as space allows.
