SFA to offer Music Discovery Camp

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are being accepted for "Have a Blast from the Past," a Music Discovery Camp for first through sixth graders offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 15. Registration deadline is Tuesday, July 5.

Jennifer Weems, director of the camp, promises "a fun musical experience" as the campers become a part of a cast that travels back through the 20th century to relive the Roaring '20s, the Big Band era, the birth of rock 'n roll and great songs of the '70s, '80s and '90s.

Participants will learn about the famous inventions, entertainers and athletes, fashions, major wars and history of each decade and complete fun and creative craft projects that will tie the decades together. The campers' experience will culminate in a musical review highlighting the music from the 20th century.

Cost of the camp is $65. Registration forms are available on the Music Preparatory Division's Web site, www.music.sfasu.edu/prep, or in the SFA Department of Music Office.
