Nacogdoches resident receives dietetic association scholarship
Applicants from across the state and nation applied for the scholarships, and selection was based on academic and service achievement. "Scholarships from the American Dietetic Association Foundation are extremely competitive and are awarded to students who show strong potential for the practice of dietetics," said Dr. Suzy Weems, SFA Regents Professor. "SFA students and graduates fare extremely well in this competition because of the level of academic training and opportunity for service-learning provided by the Department of Human Sciences." DeWard began graduate school at SFA in January. She graduated summa cum laude from SFA in December 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition. She is a member of the Student Dietetic Association, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Upsilon Omicron Human Sciences Honor Society, Alphi Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society, Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, and the Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. She made the PresidentŐs Honor Roll five semesters and the DeanŐs List four semesters during her undergraduate education. DeWard graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 2000 and is the daughter of Rick and Pamela DeWard. Both the undergraduate food, nutrition and dietetics program and the dietetic internship in the Department of Human Sciences at SFA are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association.
