Financial Assistance Still Available for College
Education
By July, many potential university students think they’re out
of luck if they haven’t already applied for college and figured
out a way to pay for it. However, according to administrators at Stephen
F. Austin State University, it is not too late.
According to Monique Cossich, executive director of enrollment management
at SFA, the Texas Common Application for enrollment, which can be found
on the Internet at www.applytexas.org,
is the first step.
“Students also will need to provide supporting documents, such
as ACT or SAT scores, and a high school transcript with graduation date
and class rank,” Cossich explained. “If they can provide
those documents, there is still plenty of time to enroll, and possibly
even qualify for a scholarship or other financial aid.”
Cossich added that students transferring from other higher education
institutions would need to provide transcripts from those schools.
Academic Excellence scholarships and Community College Transfer Scholarships
are still available and are awarded automatically to qualified candidates.
Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded to 2004 high school graduates
from accredited high schools who ranked in the top 10 percent of their
class or who ranked in the top quarter and earned a minimum score of
1100 on the SAT or 24 on the ACT.
Community College Transfer Scholarships are available to students who
have completed a minimum of 45 transferable hours at community colleges
only and have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
SFA admissions counselors are available to students by appointment or
on a walk-in basis. For more information, call (936) 468-2504.
