SFA to host school law conference
Legislation and legal issues affecting Texas public schools will be addressed in the Texas School Law Conference hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University's College of Education and Office of the General Counsel. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 8 in the University Center Grand Ballroom.
The conference, titled "New Policies/New Directions," will include keynote addresses, breakout sessions and a luncheon. Keynote addresses will be presented by Dr. Mike Moses, former Texas Education Association commissioner and Dallas ISD superintendent; Tom Hutton of the National Association of School Boards; and Jim Walsh of Walsh, Anderson, Brown, Schulze & Aldridge, P.C.
Breakout sessions will be led by Harley Eckhart, associate director of Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association; Kelli Karczewski of Schwartz & Eichelbaum, P.C.; Glenda Herrington, director of Human Resources at SFA; and representatives from Law Focused Education, a subsidiary of the Law-Related Education Department of the State Bar that plans, promotes and supports law-related education programs.
Registration for the conference, including lunch, is $50. SFA students may register at a discounted fee of $20. Conference participants should pre-register by April 1. A registration form is available on the conference Web site at http://schoollawconference.sfasu.edu.
