Financial Aid Available for SFA Master’s Degree Program

Students seeking a master’s degree in special education and willing to work with children with emotional disorders or autism may be eligible for full scholarships at Stephen F. Austin State University, thanks to a federally funded grant awarded to SFA’s Department of Human Services. The university is recruiting qualified students who can begin the program in September 2004.

Students accepted into the program will receive monthly stipends for tuition, books and living expenses.

The program will make participants eligible for teacher certification in special education and can be completed in one academic year, with students taking courses during the fall and spring semesters and two summer sessions.

To qualify, participants must hold a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, such as psychology, sociology, kinesiology, rehabilitation, speech and language, history, science or math. Applicants must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 and a grade point average of 2.8 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. They must meet the requirement of the SFA graduate school and make a satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination. Admission and scholarship approval will be determined following an interview with the project director or project coordinator.

A commitment to teach special education for two years following graduation is required.
