SFA Offers Residence Hall Scholarships

High-achieving students considering enrolling at Stephen F. Austin State University now have an additional incentive. The school’s Board of Regents recently approved University Residence Hall Scholarships worth up to $10,000.

Each academic department at SFA will offer two residence hall scholarships to academically gifted undergraduate students. While an emphasis will be placed on awarding these scholarships to incoming freshmen students, new sophomore and junior students also will be eligible.

A University Residence Hall Scholarship recipient will be awarded a free room in an assigned university residence hall facility. The approximate value of this scholarship award is $2,500 per academic year (fall and spring semesters).

To be eligible for consideration, a freshman-, sophomore-, or junior-level student who has not previously attended SFA must apply and be admitted to the university. Entering freshmen must be in the top 15 percent of their high school graduating class or in the top 25 percent of the class with an SAT score of at least 1220 or an ACT score of at least 27.

Transfer students must meet the same requirements as entering freshmen and must have maintained a 3.25 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all college work taken at other institutions of higher education.

Applicants must present evidence of successful activities outside the academic classroom in such areas as student government, volunteer work, athletics, musical organizations, student organizations or UIL contests.

An applicant’s activities should be verified by transcript, a letter from the school sponsor or other pertinent forms of documentation.

Requirements to retain the scholarship will include a completion of at least 12 semester credit hours each semester with a grade point average of at least 3.25, appropriate progress on degree requirements and continuing approval from the awarding department.

Awards may be combined with other SFA scholarships. For more information, or to apply, call (936) 468-2605 or visit www.sfasu.edu/admissions/Scholarshipindex.htm.
