SFA’s A Cappella Choir to present Homecoming Concert
The Stephen F. Austin State University A Cappella Choir will present its Homecoming Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in Cole Concert Hall. The ensemble will sing the same program it will perform while touring the Dallas-Fort Worth area in late February and early March. “As ambassadors for SFA, the A Cappella Choir tours each spring, sharing with the community and students of the touring area the good news of SFA,” said Dr. Tim King, professor of music and director of choral activities at SFA. During the four-day tour, the choir will give evening concerts at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church in Richardson and the First United Methodist Church in Hurst. The vocalists also will present concerts at nine high schools in Richland Hills, Haltom City, Colleyville, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Arlington. Members of the choir recognize the value of bringing the concerts to communities outside of East Texas. “These tours are always a good chance to interact with future students and their directors,” said Ryan McDonald, Waco graduate student. “The trip also enables us to share a wide variety of music,” said Kelli Mikeska, Lake Jackson graduate student. The choir will sing sacred and secular music, featuring composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Hugo Wolfe and Eric Whitacre, and various folksongs and spirituals. The local concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
