SFA Faculty Member Receives Distinguished Professorship
The Stephen F. Austin State University board of regents has named Dr. Aileen Smith to the Temple-Inland Employees Distinguished Professorship in Accounting. Smith, a graduate of Lamar University, earned her master’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and her doctorate from Louisiana State University. She has been a certified public accountant since 1983 and joined the SFA faculty in 1993. Smith has received numerous awards, recognitions and research grants during her tenure at SFA. In December 2003, she received the SFASU Foundation’s Faculty Achievement Award for Research. She received the College of Business Teaching Excellence Award in 2000 and the College of Business Research Award in 2001, as well as four Allied Academies Distinguished Research awards. She also has received awards for her service to the East Texas chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs. Smith is currently serving as editor of the Journal of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues and has numerous professional publications and presentations, primarily in the areas of ethics, international accounting and gender issues. She is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the International Association for Accounting Education and Research.
