Family-oriented ‘Song, Dance and Sign’ coming to SFA

The Stephen F. Austin State University Children’s Performing Arts Series is presenting a special performance of "Song, Dance and Sign" with David Parker at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall.

Internationally recognized as the "Pied Piper of Sign," Parker combines American Sign Language, live music, visual comedy, non-stop energy and audience interaction as he performs, educates, entertains and motivates.

"Our Monday show is already sold out to school groups," said Bobbie Ann Anderson, director of the Children’s Performing Arts Series. "David has been so popular with families across the nation that we wanted to offer an opportunity for parents to accompany their children to one of our performances."

Parker began his career as a social worker. He quickly learned through his professional presentations that he had a gift for entertaining his listeners and involving them in his message. He now travels throughout the United States and Canada delivering variations on messages of self-esteem, diversity, creativity and the value of an open mind.

In 1994, Parker was given the Distinguished Service Award of the National Council on Communicative Disorders.

Parker’s presentation is designed to be enjoyed by hearing and hearing-impaired audiences.

Tickets are $6 for individuals and $5 for groups of 20 or more. For more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or 1-888-240-ARTS or visit the Children’s Performing Arts Series Web site at www.cpaskids.com.
