New Public Manager Program Offered at SFA

Stephen F. Austin State University has teamed up with Southwest Texas State University to provide a Texas Certified Public Manager Program at SFA.

The Certified Public Manager program is a sequence of seven courses presented during a 21-month period. Each class will meet one day a month for three months per course.

The program courses offered are Personnel Administration, Managing for Quality, Organizational Communication, Public Finance and Budgeting, Productivity and Program Evaluation, Information System for Managers and Applied Research Practicum. Participants may take courses in any order and begin with any course except the practicum.

Each course includes seminars, workshops and field-based dhe classes are team-taught by both SFA faculty and practitioners from a variety of positions in city, county, state and federal governments, school districts, and non-profit and private sectors.

Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from the SFA Division of Continuing Education for 21 contact hours of management training and education for each course.

The program is endorsed by the American Society of Public Administration, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education, and the Texas State Board of Accountancy. It has also been approved for continuing education credit by the Texas State Legislature.

Participants may sign up for the program courses individually or for the entire program. Individuals signing up for the entire program will be guaranteed a space in each course. Classes are limited to 35 people.

The first course will begin on March 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 421 in the Vera Dugas Liberal Arts North Building on the SFA campus.
