University art students exhibit watercolors

NACOGCHES, TEXAS - Watercolors completed this summer by Stephen F. Austin State University art students are on exhibition at the Art on Main gallery, 407 East Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches. The exhibition runs through Saturday, Sept. 3.

Sherry Ward, gallery owner, suggested the exhibition after completing a watercolor demonstration for the students enrolled in Watercolor Painting, a course for undergraduate and graduate students taught by SFA art professor Peter Andrew.

All of the pieces were completed in outdoor settings around Nacogdoches, using a variety of watercolor techniques and expressive styles, according to Andrew.

Exhibiting artists include undergraduate students Jared Deen, Caren French, Micah Goodding, Bethany Hounsell, Christopher May, Martin Molina, Katy Nutter, Kristi Rader, Angela Rice, Sarah Shimek, Mollie Squyres, Jennifer Vickery and Clint Wilson.

Graduate exhibitors include Marcus Hysmith, Leslie Magdaleno and Alamo Marquis.

The Art on Main gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.
